//A new Artisan Direct listing from Fernando in Chichicastengo!//
This is a gorgeous vintage huipil (traditional blouse) from the highland town of Nebaj, Guatemala, being sold by our friend Fernando in Chichicastenango. This traditional brocade-woven huipil from Nebaj features lovely bird figures with a maroon base and intricate neckline hand-embroidery. Easy to wear with jeans or a skirt, we think this piece fits like US sizes S and M.
This piece is handwoven with a cotton base. Please note that two of the selvages have been finished with machine-stitching. This is a beautiful piece to both wear and use as home adornment. The sides are not sewn shut for this piece, though that can easily be done by hand (let us know if you'd like us to do that for you).
Fernando and his family have a small textile treasure store in their hometown, a place filled with the most beautiful items imaginable. Currently, because of the lasting effects COVID-19 restrictions both nationally and internationally, they have not had many local sales. Thus, the listing of some of the treasures on our site here on our Artisan Direct page.
