There are really only a few steps to the plain weave on a backstrap loom. Once you get the movements, it becomes rather therapeutic to repeat them. But getting to that point might be challenging on your own - so join us to learn from master weaver Doña Lidia, step by step!
This is a one-hour introductory class on the art of backstrap weaving with master weaver Doña Lidia and includes a comprehensive PDF guide with links to pre-recorded tutorials we have produced.
Doña Lidia has been teaching backstrap weaving nationally and internationally for several decades. She is a wealth of knowledge and a patient teacher with experience teaching in English.
This class will be held on Saturday, September 30th, from 10:30am - 11:30am Guatemala time via Zoom from Doña Lidia's home with Kakaw staff helping with translation (when necessary; Doña Lidia's English is excellent!) and moderation. Please make sure to check the time difference from where you are. The class will also be recorded and the recording will be made available to the participants after the class, in case you'd like to go back and see the steps again. (This also means that if you can't make it "live" to the session, you will still have access to the Zoom recording.)
Please join us with your backstrap loom ready to go. Need a loom? No worries, we have several offerings for you, and recommend these two for this class: Kids' Practice Loom and Practice Loom. If you would like to move onto brocade figures after this class, then you can go ahead and get prepped with a Brocade Loom now.
We will be sending you an email with more class details (Zoom info and class PDF with pre-recorded tutorials) during the week leading up to this class.
