//This is a One-of-a-Kind artwork listed on our Artisan Direct section, brought to you straight from the weavers.//

What a stunning garment from San Juan Cotzal! This pre-loved piece is being sold by the weaver herself, who is a member of the cooperative of weavers from the town. Filled with supplementary weft brocade figures, this piece blends the colors very nicely, full of brocaded birds, corn, stars, and other geometric figures, each with a different local and traditional meaning.

The neck opening is a bit snug but physically still large enough for Mari to put on and take off without difficulty, adorned with meticulous and full chain stitching. The selvages at the bottom of the blouse are folded over and sewn by machine to prevent unraveling.

Threads used are high-quality cotton for the base and a rayon floss for the luscious brocade. The sleeves are sweetly decorated with a bit of velvet.

This huipil is beautiful to wear and use as decoration as is or opened on the sides so that it can be laid flat. Please do not cut this handwoven gem as it is full of tradition and heritage.

Curious about the meaning behind the beautiful brocade figures? We translated what the weavers said here on our blog.
