Tierra Top (L)
$187.00
This beautifully hand-crafted wrap top is the result of over a year of collaborative work, highlighting the talents of artisans from multiple communities across Guatemala, brought together in this collaboration between Sedona Rigsby and Kakaw Designs. From the initial sketches to prototype development, we worked closely with dyers and weavers to incorporate their heritage techniques through Sedona's thoughtful design.
Both the Tierra Top and Trousers are made with versatility and sustainability in mind. Our shared commitment to practical wear, use of indigo and other natural dyes, and localized textile traditions are celebrated in each garment. Cotton yarns were dyed by our partners at Lake Atitlán, backstrap weaving performed in San Juan Cotzal, footloom weaving in San Juan la Laguna, and garment construction in Antigua. This top is a testament to the artistry and adaptability of traditional weaving techniques, brought to life in a contemporary, easy-to-wear garment design.
With an adaptable design, this top suits a range of body types, featuring a handwoven inner ribbon tie at the front and a larger outer ribbon at the back. The rectangular shape honors the traditional güipil, maximizing the use of precious, handwoven textiles.

It's hard to convey the quality of this top in words: hand woven, naturally dyed, the weight and heft of the fabric, the luster in the threads... I practice these crafts as an amateur hobbyist, and if you know what's involved, you know. To conceive of and make something like the Tierra Top takes many years of craft practice, skill, time, vision. It honestly feels a bit strange to leave a review for the Tierra Top, because an online review implies this top is somehow comparable to other garments online, which it is not. There is simply nothing like this garment available in a store on U.S. soil (maybe a gallery or two). I will treasure it for a lifetime. My hands started shaking when I felt the fabric and tried it on - it's that nice. In more practical terms (I sew), my true-waist measurement is 33.5" and my underarm bust 39" (without ease), and this top ties around to make it perfectly fitted. I have larger shoulders from working in ag and LOVE how the style of this top works with that, so nothing is tight or binding. Marvelous item.
