Vintage 6: Huipil Chajul
$65.00
This is a lovely wearable huipil in muted tones. Handwoven in Chajul on a backstrap loom using cotton yarn.
Some of the selvages are cleanly finished on the loom (woven), and others have been cut and then secured with machine stitching.
Each of the two panels has been woven on a backstrap loom and then joined together by machine stitching.
This type of huipil (traditional blouse) is regionally worn with a red corte (wrap skirt), and the combination is really beautiful. But feel free to combine it with other kinds of skirts or jeans.
Brocaded figures include animals - can you spot the deer? Deer are said to symbolize stability. Supplementary weft threads are rayon and acrylic. This piece is wearable, meaning that the neck opening is large enough for the huipil to be worn.
