A stunning lilac huipil! It is not so common to find this vibrant shade. This traditional garment is from Chajul, and features adorable owls - can you spot them? Owls symbolize wisdom and fortune in Guatemala.
Some of the selvages are cleanly finished on the loom (woven), and others have been cut and then secured with machine stitching.
Each of the two panels has been woven on a backstrap loom and then joined together by machine stitching.
This type of huipil (traditional blouse) is regionally worn with a red corte (wrap skirt), and the combination is really beautiful. But feel free to combine it with other kinds of skirts or jeans.
Brocaded includes zoomorphic figures woven with rayon and acrylic thread. This piece is wearable, meaning that the neck opening is large enough for the huipil to be worn.
