Handspun Organic Cotton Throw in Cochinilla
Sold Out $185.00
This luscious throw uses 100% local organic cotton naturally-dyed in cochineal, and the handspun threads make for an extra cozy and luxurious wrap-around. Use it as a blanket on your couch, bed, or outside on those chilly summer nights.
Three panels handwoven on a backstrap loom have been combined using hand-stitched "randa" with natural indigo-dyed cotton. All of the fibers used for this piece have been grown, harvested, processed, spun, dyed, woven .... all by hand and by one family at Lake Atitlán. You can still smell the natural indigo in the weft fibers - so calming. The warp is dyed in cochineal and the weft in natural indigo.
Fun fact: our friends over in San Juan la Laguna fertilize their cotton trees with a local ant poop - yup, poop. When the ants clean out their homes, so to say, the droppings can be harvested, and left by the cotton trees.
This throw measures 46 inches by 70 inches, plus fringes. Please allow a couple of inches of variety as each piece is handmade.
This item ships directly from Guatemala.
