//This is a One-of-a-Kind artwork brought to you straight from the weavers.//

This handwoven, soft table runner is made with locally-grown cotton, handspun first using a traditional malacate spindle, and then dyed with natural dyes. Doña Marta is a master spinner and facilitates the production of such beautiful artworks with her small team at San Juan la Laguna, Guatemala. The long panel features supplementary weft brocade figures created with natural brown "ixcaco" cotton, an heirloom cotton that grows brown fibers. Its use is rare nowadays in Guatemala due to the fiber's short staple, making it challenging to spin for large-scale use. The traditional spinning method involves careful attention especially for the ixcaco variety.

Doña Marta is also an exceptional indigo dyer, growing her own plant and processing it into a dye when possible. We are always in awe of the stable and rich hues she is able to achieve! The base of this panel (both warp and weft) is dyed in natural indigo.

We believe these hanwoven panels to be quite versatile. They make great table runners, but also decoration at home and even a scarf.

Please note that handspun cotton is starched for weaving, and while this piece has already been washed, it will continue to soften with use and wash.
