Our friend and artisan partner at Lake Atitlán, Doña Marta, has together with her family constructed a new floor above their home in San Juan la Laguna with the goal of hosting visitors. There are two rooms, one with two double beds and another with one double bed. The rooms share a common space, a bathroom and shower, a traditional "pila" sink, and a large terrace above. All beds and other furniture are brand new as of 2026, and the family is ready to host guests.
Together with Doña Marta, we've developed a week full of activities that highlight the master artisan's skills. Come spend a week with Doña Marta and family, learning the local way of life and practicing traditional textile processes!
This week-long Homestay + Workshop experience is ideal for one to three creatives who want to slow down and immerse themselves in a grassroots indigenous community.
Pricing:
$495/person in single room
$415/person in shared double room (two full beds)

I had such an amazing time in San Juan with Doña Marta, Dominga and the family and very much enjoyed the amazing workshops! Dominga was a central point of contact, providing me with thorough directions and support to make sure I arrived safe. Doña Marta welcomed me into the home and gave me the tour, immediately ensuring I had any questions answered and had everything I needed. Throughout the week, I was provided with a variety of different breakfasts and the family was so warm and welcoming throughout our time together. Both Dominga and Doña Marta were thorough throughout their explanations in the workshops throughout the week and I learned so much throughout the workshops. My favorite workshop was getting to take a walk around the town and farmland, led by Dominga, where we collected the two types of cotton we had previously spun.
This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in learning more about art and Guatemalas traditions and are looking for a really meaningful immersive experiences. The guest space is private, spacious and I felt very comfortable in the home and with the wonderful family. I was even able to work online in the afternoons after workshops which was great! I truly loved getting to be a part of this experience and hope to get to visit the family again!
