Spin your own cotton yarn with the Malacate Spindle Kit. This kit includes a handcrafted wooden supported spindle (called "malacate" here in Guatemala) and two types of high-quality cotton locally grown here in Guatemala, ixcaco and white. The cotton has been seeded and beat in preparation for spinning. "Ixcaco" is the heritage brown cotton grown in Guatemala, with naturally brown fibers.
Fun fact: The master spinner we work with, Doña Marta, was having a hard time finding malacate spindles for workshops arranged on our visits. Her son swept in to help! As an experienced woodworker, he was able to replicate traditional spindles made of clay and support his mother. We're grateful for this teamwork.
