//This class includes all materials and two hours of instruction in Spanish for 1-4 participants. Please message us via WhatsApp at +502 5191 1991 or email us at hello@kakawdesigns.com to coordinate the date and time. We are located at 1a Avenida Sur #4B in Antigua Guatemala.//

This two-hour class includes:

  • The canvas tote made by Creamos already stenciled by Claribel for easy embroidery (two designs available: traditional neckline and barrilete, a traditional giant kite)
  • Naturally-dyed cotton threads of your choosing, also to take home and continue stitching
  • Our PDF guide with videos on each of the traditional stitches taught by Claribel. The access will be sent automatically after class to the provided email at check-out upon purchase of this product.
  • A small snack
  • Optional: English interpretation for the beginning of the class, when Claribel speaks about the embroidery tradition in Sumpango, the garments, colors, patterns, etc. The charge is $10 for translation.

Claribel is our friend from Sumpango, a town known for beautiful traditional neckline embroidery full of flowers, volcanoes, and other motifs reminiscent of the town's famous Barriletes, the giant kites flown for All Saints' Day. She is also a master embroideress with so much experience sharing her textile tradition with those interested. You can just feel how she radiates with pride and joy as she talks about the different traditional motifs and stitches. It is wonderful to see her light up as she shares the art she holds so dear. We're sure you will love it, too!

Kids:
We welcome interested creative children from 10 years on for our workshops! Please note that the parent or adult guardian will need to be responsible for children's participation. Fine motor skills are needed for every class, and children must be able to safely use sharp tools such as scissors and needles. We ask for maximum two children per one adult to ensure safe supervision.

In some cases, we may be able to accept younger children in a private setting with a few modifications to the class, and with the ratio of one adult per child. If interested in this option, please contact us.

Our workshop sign-ups and textile travel deposits are non-refundable. See details here.

Great Embroidery Class

I had a wonderful private embroidery lesson at Kakaw Designs. It included historical information as well as embroidery techniques. Everything was translated into English so I had no problem keeping up. I highly recommend taking a class with them (or just buying from their exquisite shop if you’re feeling lazy).

Very enjoyable!

I took the embroidery class with a small group of other students--it was wonderful! The teacher was very patient with me and it was fun to learn how to do something radically different from my normal activities. This is a great class if you are going to be in Antigua for a few weeks, and are wanting to do something creative!

Great experience and so much fun!

I took the private embroidery class with Claribel and it was so much fun to learn the different stitches in the beautiful courtyard. Claribel is so nice and helpful, it was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had during my month in Antigua. This was my first time doing embroidery but Claribel was patient and helped me improve. It’s awesome how much you can improve during the class! I recommend this class to anyone! I am excited to continue this new hobby of mine and give thanks to Kakaw Designs for the opportunity.
