Vintage 15: Faja Nebaj

This is a gorgeous vintage traditional faja <fa-ha> from the town of Nebaj, Guatemala. Fajas are used as belts for traditional cortes (wrap skirts) and pants, if for men, though nowadays it is much less common for men to wear traditional handwoven outfits.

Material used is all cotton. Fajas from Nebaj are particularly interesting due to the weave structure - make sure you admire the supplementary weft brocade stitches that travel "up" the warp. The result is a thick, sturdy weave. This is a piece to be cherished, a traditional textile treasure.

Measurements:

Width: 3 inches

Length: 99 inches

Material: Cotton

Care: Hand wash separately and line dry inside out. Colors should not bleed, but best to be gentle to preserve the brocade stitches.
