Entirely made with two backstrap-woven panels, this "chaleco" or vest was born out of our desire to support the backststrap weaving tradition, and in particular, the weavers in the remote community of San Juan Cotzal. Their macramé work is extremely detailed, and we're honored to launch this garment design that uses the handwoen textiles to their fullest extent, without any cutting.

The joining of the two panels is performed with our favorite "randa" stitch, also all by hand. Woven and stitched using naturally-dyed cotton.

Our ode to traditional textile processes.

Please note that backstrap weaving produces fabric that can be a bit rigid in the beginning. The fabric will loosen and soften with use and wash.

Measurements:

Width: 20 inches

Front Length: 31 inches

Back Length: 35 plus 3 inches of macramé

Material: Naturally-dyed cotton

Care: Wash by hand or by machine in cold water with gentle detergent. If using a machine, make sure to always put the garment inside a mesh bag. Line-dry or lay flat to dry inside out in the shade. We recommend storing away from direct sunlight to maintain the brilliance of the natural dyes.
