The Aiko Jacket / Made to Order

//Currently working on order basis, please allow two weeks to complete the Jacket and ship to you. Looking for something ready to ship? Check the one-of-a-kind page//

Named after Mari's mom Aiko, who helped us with the base pattern for this Japanese-inspired jacket. We've added our touch using naturally-dyed and footloom-woven textiles prepared for us by our partner weavers at Lake Atitlán. The result is a cozy medium heavy-weight cotton jacket that is great on its own and layered. Possibly the best part - generous pockets!

Choose from the textile options listed in the drop-down menu, or take a look here what else we have available at the moment. Write in your textile choice in the comments at check-out if choosing from the option in the link.

Sewing is all done by Juan Carlos, who was able to purchase an overlock sewing machine in 2020 with all the work from making cloth masks since COVID hit. We have been working together to expand his offerings and improve construction details. After a few tweaks, we're so excited to share this jacket with you! We think it's pretty great, and we hope you do, too.

$10 donated per jacket sale to Friendship Bridge, chosen by Aiko, since she was so kind to share this pattern with us. The organization works to create opportunities for rural indigenous women in Guatemala.

The pattern does not have defined shoulder lines, allowing for a versatile fit for body shapes small to large. Close it with a pin if you'd like, or just leave open for a haori-like wear. The sleeves are 3/4 length.

Including a mending kit with each jacket, in-line with this piece's Japanese influence! With a few different textile squares (including the same textile as the jacket) and naturally-dyed cotton threads, we hope for these jackets to be loved and used for years to come as well as mended if needed in the future. When done with care and love, we believe that mending makes garments increasingly beautiful.

Care: Wash separately in gentle cycle with cold water and gentle detergent. Hang or lay flat to dry in the shade. Natural dyes tend to fade with continued sun exposure - we recommend storing naturally-dyed garments away from direct sunlight.
