Online intermediate brocade weave class with Doña Lidia / November 7, 11am-12noon (2020)
This is a one-hour group class dedicated to different brocade designs traditional to San Antonio Aguas Calientes. Starting from the simple mosquito to the repeating pepenado lines, the class will also cover "semillas" or seeds, with the use of multiple supplementary weft threads per row. These are all single-sided brocade. Towards the end of the class, simple demonstration on double-sided brocade will also be made, though this is meant more for observation as it is a complicated technique.
Doña Lidia has been teaching backstrap weaving nationally and internationally for many years. She is a wealth of knowledge and a patient teacher with experience teaching in English.
This class will be held via Zoom on Saturday, November 7th, 11am-12noon Guatemala time from Doña Lidia's home. Following the hour of weaving together, we will be featuring a live bazaar with handwoven items for sale, which will be an excellent opportunity to purchase woven beauties directly from Doña Lidia and her family in San Antonio Aguas Calientes. We will organize all logistics like payments and shipping.
Please join us with your backstrap loom ready to go. Need a loom? No problem, we have these practice brocade looms for you, prepared by Doña Lidia and her sister.
We will be sending you an email with more class details during the week leading up to this class.
