This is a one-hour group class dedicated to three single-side brocade designs traditional to San Antonio Aguas Calientes. We will start with simple mosquitos (fruit flies), then the repeating pepenado lines and "semillas" or seeds, with the use of multiple supplementary weft threads per row. This class will be recorded, so you can go back to the details and see the demonstration again later when you'd like.
Doña Lidia has been teaching backstrap weaving nationally and internationally for many years. She is a wealth of knowledge and a patient teacher with experience teaching in English.
This class will be held via Zoom on Saturday, February 13th, 11am-12noon Guatemala time from Doña Lidia's home. Please check the time difference for where you are. Following the hour of weaving together, we will be featuring a live bazaar with handwoven items for sale, which will be an excellent opportunity to purchase woven beauties directly from Doña Lidia and her family in San Antonio Aguas Calientes. We will organize all logistics like payments and shipping.
Please join us with your backstrap loom ready to go. Need a loom? No problem, we have these practice brocade looms for you, prepared by Doña Lidia and her sister.
We will be sending you an email with more class details during the week leading up to this class.
