Faja Doña Lidia 6

//A new Artisan Direct listing from Doña Lidia!//

This is a handwoven "faja" or belt in the traditional style from San Antonio Aguas Calientes. It is being offered by master weaver Doña Lidia López, who is the wonderful backstrap weaving teacher for the online classes we offer. All the fajas listed under her section of Artisan Direct have been handwoven either by Doña Lidia herself or her sister Doña Blandina.

The colorfully-brocaded geometric figures in this faja each carry their own meaning, and are present in about half of the length of the sash, as the under layers would not show when worn like a sash over a traditional corte (wrap skirt). This brocade is done in single-sided supplementary weft brocade.

Modeled images show the complete traditional outfit from San Antonio AC (Sucy is wearing different pieces, just to demonstrate how garments are worn in her hometown).
