Faja Doña Lidia 5

//A new Artisan Direct listing from Doña Lidia!//

This is a handwoven "faja" or belt in the traditional style from San Antonio Aguas Calientes. It is being offered by master weaver Doña Lidia López, who is the wonderful backstrap weaving teacher for the online classes we offer. All the fajas listed under her section of Artisan Direct have been handwoven either by Doña Lidia herself or her sister Doña Blandina.

The beautiful flowers for this piece are woven with double-sided reversible brocade, an advanced backstrap weaving technique that is very laborious. Almost half of the length of the faja has the brocade, as the under layers would not show when worn like a sash over a traditional corte (wrap skirt).

Modeled images show the complete traditional outfit from San Antonio AC (Sucy is wearing different pieces, just to demonstrate how garments are worn in her hometown).
