Cotton ikat bedspread in blue

This is a luxurious five-panel cotton bedspread blanket backstrap-woven by our friends Dominga and Marta at San Juan la Laguna. The patterns seen in natural indigo are the result of hand-tying knots before dyeing, a resist-dye technique called ikat. All threads used here are cotton, both warp and weft. And this unique piece also features handspun organic cotton that the family grows and harvests, dyed in natural indigo.

This is a true one-of-a-kind treasure that comfortably fits both full and queen-sized beds. The pictures here were taken on a full-size bed.

All five handwoven panels are joined with gentle randa embroidery in zigzag form, also with the handspun cotton thread dyed in indigo. A stunning example of weaving artistry.

The dark blue is from naturally-dyed indigo.
