Cotton ikat bedspread in Aqua

This is a luxurious soft Aqua-colored five-panel cotton bedspread blanket woven on a backstrap loom by our friends Dominga and Marta at San Juan la Laguna. The patterns seen in natural indigo are the result of hand-tying knots before dyeing, a resist-dye technique called ikat. All threads used here are cotton, both warp and weft. Some of the cotton thread used has been hand-spun by Doña Marta. The family grows their own cotton, but the production is not enough for all the weaving, thus they often mix hand-spun cotton with commercial cotton. The dark blue is from naturally-dyed indigo.

This is a true one-of-a-kind treasure that comfortably fits both full and queen-sized beds. The pictures of the beige version here were taken on a full-size bed.

All five handwoven panels are joined with gentle randa embroidery in zigzag form.  This is a stunning example of textile artistry from start to finish.

Width: 82 inches

Length: 88 inches plus 3 inches of twisted fringes on both ends
