A beautiful new handwoven cotton blouse made with three panels, all woven on a backstrap loom by our partner weavers up in Cobán. This is a striking piece with both beautiful brocade patterns woven into the blouse and then embroidery placed after the weaving, along the neckline as well as the arms. The embroidery thread used is a classy rayon floss.
This type of huipil (traditional blouse) is regionally worn with gathered flowy corte (wrap skirt), and the combination is really beautiful. But feel free to combine with other kinds of skirts or jeans.
Note that all three handwoven panels have four clean selvedge ends, a technically challenging feat that is laborious. The end results in structurally strong textiles that reduces waste as all panels are used to their fullest.
