Vintage 4: Huipil Chajul

This is an especially "wearable" handwoven güipil from Chajul. The neck opening is generous, and its slender shape feels perhaps more like a "blouse" or "top."

All four selvages are meticulously finished on the loom, showing excellent mastery by the weaver. Each of the two panels has been woven on a backstrap loom and then joined together by machine stitching.

This type of huipil (traditional blouse) is regionally worn with a red corte (wrap skirt), and the combination is really beautiful. But feel free to combine it with other kinds of skirts or jeans.

Brocaded includes zoomorphic figures woven with rayon and acrylic thread.

Measurements:

Width: 18.5 inches

Length: 22 inches

Material: Cotton & rayon

Care: Hand wash separately and line dry inside out. Colors should not bleed, but best to be gentle to preserve the brocade stitches.
