The Stars in the Sky indigo textile turns into a cozy blanket to be used indoors and outdoors. Footloom indigo textile with small ikat designs inspired by the summer night sky is carefully hand-embroidered using naturally-dyed cotton thread. Stitch by stitch, the fabric is combined to create a practical blanket large enough to be enjoyed by 2-3 people for a picnic. The weight of this textile is on the heavier side, making this blanket practical for laying out on the grass when there might be a little moisture leftover still.
The thread used is all cotton, and the natural indigo dye is from El Salvador. Our partner dyers and weavers at Lake Atitlán carefully prepare the warp threads with the small ikat knots, then weave on a large footloom to be able to provide a wider textile. But we still wanted our blanket to be bigger, so that's why we've come up with this design to combine three pieces with traditional randa embroidery also in naturally-dyed cotton, using contrasting light pink and grey. Our embroidery partners in Sumpango first thought the color combination was a little "sad" because it wasn't as bright as what they are used to -- but now that the blankets are finished, they've told us that they are happy with how they came out ☺️ That's good, because so are we!
