The Aiko Jacket in Corte 5 S/M

//This is a OOAK jacket version made with repurposed traditional corte textile. See the jacket in naturally-dyed textile versions here.//

Named after Mari's mom Aiko, who helped us with the base pattern for this Japanese-inspired jacket. This is a true one-of-a-kind version using a traditional corte (wrap skirt). The result is a cozy cotton jacket that is great on its own and layered. Possibly the best part - generous pockets!

The pattern does not have defined shoulder lines, allowing for a versatile fit for body shapes small to large. Close it with a pin if you'd like, or just leave open for a haori-like wear. The sleeves are 3/4 length.

Sewing is all done by Juan Carlos, who was able to purchase an overlock sewing machine in 2020 with all the work from making cloth masks since COVID hit. We have been working together to expand his offerings.

$10 donated per jacket sale to Friendship Bridge, chosen by Aiko, since she was so kind to share this pattern with us. The organization works to create opportunities for rural indigenous women in Guatemala.

Including a mending kit with each jacket, in-line with this piece's Japanese influence! With a few different textile squares (including the same textile as the jacket) and naturally-dyed cotton threads, we hope for these jackets to be loved and used for years to come as well as mended if needed in the future. When done with care and love, we believe that mending makes garments increasingly beautiful.
