Medium Cotton Rug in Indigo
This versatile 100% cotton rug was first hand-woven in Momostenango, and then hand-dyed in natural indigo at Lake Atitlán. The cotton is a rustic, thick and soft yarn-like. It is not spun with much tension, resulting in a soft and chunky weave. It is sure to keep your feet cozy.
Rugs in Momostenango are woven on large footlooms, which are managed per family as a source or income. Unfortunately, there are less and less weavers continuing this tradition in the town.
This beauty is one of the very first rugs we dip-dyed together with Francisca at Lake Atitlán. While we were bewildered by the purple resulting in the wool rugs, the single cotton rug we submerged in the same indigo vat came out with the expected indigo results. Natural dyes are sure fascinating! This deep blue is the globally cherished indigo hue.
