Traditional garment mending with Claribel / Sat January 28th, 2023 10-11am Guatemala time (online)
A new very special class offering with Claribel! Stitch-along with master embroideress and friend Claribel, who will be sharing about and demonstrating the traditional stitching she calls, in Spanish, "zursir." Take a look - the beautiful intentional stitches remind us so much of kantha from India and sashiko from Japan. A common thread around the world of mending garments? We love this tradition.
Claribel is our friend from Sumpango, a town known for beautiful traditional neckline embroidery full of flowers, volcanoes, and other motifs reminiscent of the town's famous Barriletes, the giant kites flown for All Saints' Day.
This one-hour class includes:
- Access to live Zoom instruction from Claribel (as well as the recording) including some research on the historical use of this mending stitch and at least one vintage sample with it.
- PDF guide with close-up images prepared after the class
Would you like to work with naturally-dyed thread? Find our thread bundle here.
We've also put together a Mending Kit, great for gifting together with the class!
The class will be held on Saturday, January 28th, from 10-11am Guatemala time with Claribel as the teacher and Kakaw staff recording and moderating the session. Not sure about the time difference? Check here.
An email with more details will be sent a few days before the class, including the Zoom meeting invitation. The class will be recorded and shared privately, so participants will be able to go back and review the material at their leisure.
