We absolutely ADORE cortes from Santo Domingo Xenacoj! (Note that the "x" is pronounced with a <sh> sound). Muted plain "morga" cortes are transformed into extravagant beauties with wide and elaborate hand-embroidery to join the two panels. You'll see that the embroidery is extremely decorative, with all sorts of animals and flowers incorporated. A piece like this one with such gorgeous embroidery would be reserved for special occasions.
The embroidery is completely reversible, beautiful on both sides, with includes figures flowers, baskets, grapes, and squirrels.
This piece is closed, meaning still in the original loop form, and with clean selvages.
Note that this beautiful corte was purchased in-person in the town of Santo Domingo Xenacoj by our friend and embroidery coordinator Claribel, who knew immediately how special this piece was!
This piece has been cut so it is not in loop form. The ends have been sewn by machine. We think this would be an excellent piece for upholstery because of the weight-clean selvages at the sides of the corte.
Measurements:
Width: 43.5 inches
Length: 70 inches
