This is one of the heaviest corte types in Guatemala. The weave is quite thick - think a bit like the weight of jeans. This type of heavier-weight cotton corte with darker navy blue is called "morga" and is great for so many uses!
Heavy enough to throw over a table or bring to the park for a picnic and still light enough to be used for sewing projects, especially jackets and mid-weight skirts. This piece was handwoven with mid-weight cotton and features hand-embroidered randa, from the town of San Pedro Sacatepéquez. The crossing of the two randa lines represents the Mayan Cross, signaling the four cardinal points and energies of the Maya cosmovision.
This piece is closed, meaning still in the original loop form, and with clean selvages.
Measurements:
Width: 42 inches
Length: 50 inches (if the loop is cut open, the length would double)
Material: Cotton
Care: Machine wash in gentle cycle and line dry.
Collections: Artisan Direct, Indumentaria Maya - Traditional textiles, New Storewide, Vintage Market
